Do you think your moods are controlled by your brain chemistry or that your brain chemistry dictates your moods? Do you believe people are born with particular emotional temperaments or that they are primarily shaped by environmental factors?
I would have to say both.
Having suffered from depression for many years, I can easily say that a lot of it is all in my head, or at least caused by it. I have been known to break down and cry for hours completely unprovoked, and no matter what I do, it takes forever to get over it. Environmental factors do aid to emotions - things can make one sad or happy or angry. However, brain chemistry helps dictate how one responds to this, (or lack of response).
I've done everything possible to combat depression and it's incredibly difficult to overcome. I can't simply "get over it" like many people have suggested. Trust me, i've tried that many times, it doesn't work that easily. Otherwise I would've "gotten over" my depression a LONG time ago.
